The Clever Fox # 14

 THE CLEVER FOX

bedtime story

Long, long ago, there lived a crocodile and a crab in a lake. They were very good friends. The lake was in the middle of a thick forest and there were plenty of fish in it.

The two friends loved to eat fish every day But as time passed, the number of fish in the lake began to decrease The crocodile thought that he would now catch the animals which came to the lake to drink water But how difficult it would be to catch a prey every day!

The crocodile and the crab were really wormed Suddenly, the crocodile had an idea. He said to the crab. "I will pretend to be dead. Go and spread the news of my death in the forest Once the animals hear the news of my death, they will certainly come here without fear to drink water. It will then be very easy for me to catch them."

The crab at once set off to give the news of the crocodile's death to all the animals in the forest.

He met a fox first The crab told him about the crocodile's death. He said. "Isn't this a very good news? The animals do not have to worry now. You can tell them all that they can come to the lake without any fear and drink its sweet water?

The fox was very clever. He remarked, "Poor crocodile! Let me come and see his dead body myself.

The crab took the fox to the crocodile who lay still, pretending to be dead The fox could sense a plot. He said to the crab, "Why is the crocodile lying still like this? In fact, as soon as a crocodile dies, its tail starts moving. But this crocodile's tail is not moving!"

Hearing this, the crocodile moved his tail The clever fox said to the crab, "Can any animal move its tail after it is dead? A dead animal can neither move nor walk This crocodile is alive and he can also hear me. Well, Mr. Crocodile, you tried to play a trick on me. But you can't fool me. Ha! Ha!" Saying this, the clever fox went back to the forest. He told all the animals about the dirty trick played on them by the crocodile and the crab.

The two friends thus failed to fool the clever fox.
