The Lion and The Mosquito #26
THE LION AND THE MOSQUITO
One evening, the lion was walking near the bank of a river. On seeing the lion, all the animals ran helter-skelter. The birds flew into their nests to hide and protect their fledgelings. However, there was a mosquito who was humming a tune. He did not fear the hon. A sparrow advised the mosquito, "Mr Mosquito, please be quiet. The lion, the King of the jungle, is coming this way."
"He may be the King. I don't care. I am going to hum and fly as well," said the proud mosquito and continued to hum.
Meanwhile, the lion came there. He was enraged on hearing the continuous humming of the mosquito. He roared, "Hey, you Mosquito! Keep quiet, otherwise I will kill you."
The mosquito was unperturbed. He quickly flew into the lion's left ear and started humming there. The lion lifted his paw and struck at his own ear, missing the mosquito. The mosquito flew into the night ear next, and started humming there, too. He was still not afraid. The harassed lion finally left the spot wondering, "I may be the King of the jungle, but I cannot do what a mosquito can do so easily. I am helpless against him."
The mosquito now began boasting of what he had done to the lion. "I have outwitted the lion. Henceforth, I am the King of the jungle," he said.
The mosquito started humming even louder than before. All of a sudden, he was caught in a spider's web. He struggled to free himself, but all his efforts were in vain.
After a little while, the spider came and gobbled up the mosquito.
Never be proud of yourself. There is always somebody better than you.
