Unwanted Advice #37

UNWANTED ADVICE

bedtime story

The monsoon had set in and it was raining heavily. The streets were deserted. People were inside their homes. Even the birds were in their nests. But what about those who had neither a house nor a nest? One such animal, a monkey. was sitting on a branch of a tree and trying to protect himself from the rain. He was shivering with cold and his teeth chattered.

Just above the branch on which the monkey sat, there was a nest of a weaverbird. The weaverbird builds a beautiful nest. He weaves his nest with blades of grass or fibres of leaves. The weaverbird's nest is a piece of art. Usually, the weaverbird weaves his nest on a branch of a thorny tree.

The weaverbird's wife was sitting comfortably in her nest. She heard the sound of the chattening of the monkey's teeth. So she peeped out of her nest. When she saw the monkey shivering with cold, she pitied him.

"Dear monkey, you are thoroughly drenched in the rain! Why don't you build a house when it is not raining?" asked the weaverbird.

"Oh! Keep quiet. I do not need your advice," said the monkey angrily.

"But, my friend! You have two hands..." said the weaverbird.

But the monkey interrupted her and said, "Didn't you hear me? I did not ask for your advice."

"Dear friend! Oh! How I wish I, too, had two hands like you..." said the weaverbird.

Now the monkey lost his temper. He said angrily, "Why don't you keep quiet? If I hear one more word from you, I will pull out your tongue.

But the weaverbird continued to advise the monkey, "Ah, friend! I am advising you for your own good. If you had a house, you would not be shivering with cold like this."

Now the monkey lost his patience. He was already annoyed because of the heavy rain and the cold. As if this was not enough, the weaverbird continued to bother him with her unwanted advice. He was furious. He said, "I can see that you can't keep your mouth shut. You like to advise other animals because you have a nest. All right. I will render you homeless in a minute..." Saying this, the monkey jumped up. He caught the weaverbird's nest, pulled it off the branch and destroyed it. The weaverbird was so frightened, that she flew off to another branch to save her life.

She now realized her mistake, but it was too late. Since that day, she resolved that she would never give unwanted advice to anyone.
