The Justice #32

THE JUSTICE

bedtime story

In a big forest, there lived a tiger. One day, some hunters set a trap to catch the tiger. That night, when the tiger was stalking a prey in the forest, he was caught in the trap. He struggled hard to free himself, but it was all in vain.

In the morning, the tiger saw a man passing by the cage. The tiger requested him, "Friend, please help me get out of this cage. I promise that I will not kill you. In fact, I will give you my golden ornaments if you do me this favour."

The man was tempted to own the golden ornaments. He opened the door of the cage and released the tiger.

As soon as the tiger was out, he roared, "Now I will kill you."

The man was frightened. He pleaded with the tiger to spare him, but the tiger refused to listen to any of his pleas.

Meanwhile, a fox came there. The man said to the fox, "Dear fox, this tiger was trapped in this cage. I released him from the cage because he assured me that he would not kill me. He also promised to give me his gold ornaments. But now he refuses to fulfil his promise. He wants to kill me. O fox, please give me justice."

The fox said, "Look, it is not easy to give Justice in such a case. I will have to listen to the whole story right from the beginning."

"First, I would like to know how the tiger was trapped in this cage. After that, I can think further about this matter. Where was the tiger? And where were you standing, my friend?"

The tiger went into the cage and stood there. He said to the fox, "I was standing right here, in this cage."

The man said, "It was like this. I was passing by this cage. The tiger requested me to release him from the cage. I went near the cage, opened the door and released the tiger."

"Ah! I see. Now I understand the whole story. And, dear tiger, were you standing exactly in the same position in the cage?" inquired the fox.

"Yes. Exactly in this position," asserted the tiger.

"Then, in that case, my dear tiger, you had better remain in the cage," said the fox as he closed the door of the cage.

The fox turned to the man and said, "Dear friend, you may go your way now. I hope you have no problem. And you, dear tiger! This man released you from the cage. Instead of thanking him for his favour, you wanted to kill him! How could you do such a thing? Now you remain in this cage for ever!"

Then the man and the fox went their own ways.
